At a recent art workshop at Kenwith Castle in Westward Ho! we discussed changing our Creative Mojo sessions to something a little bit different and got hooked on the idea of art history. How about introducing a different artist each month and working from them as a starting point to create our own paintings and art work?
For our first session we decided on Van Gogh. I painted a few studies of two of his famous paintings - Starry Night and Wheat Field with Cypresses and mixed a group of paints to reflect the colours in the paintings. I have to admit I was nervous going into the session as I wasn't sure how it would be received. It was a very different type of session to how we normally do things. A few residents were self-conscious about how their finished piece would turn out, and it was difficult for them to envisage filling a blank page with paint, however, my nerves were unfounded as the residents produced some stunning art work, which you can see in the video below.
